Charles is Professor of Physiology & Pharmacology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He recalls being challenged and inspired by North Central's Biology faculty, particularly Drs. Wesley Steig and Russell Hansen. He received a M.S. in zoology-physiology from Northern Illinois University and a Ph.D. in endocrinology at the Medical College of Georgia. In recent years, his lab research has focused on endocrine toxicology and mechanisms of endocrine disruption by environmental toxicants. He recently completed a book, Endocrine Toxicology published by Informa Healthcare. He is also very active in education, not only teaching endocrine pharmacology but developing an award winning case-based small-group tutorial series for first-year medical students and an NSF-funded case-based course in bioethics and responsible conduct of research for graduate students. Charles is a 2010 recipient of North Central's Outstanding Alumnus Award.
