There are a variety
of different advisors, as well as two physicians that are affiliated with this
program. These faculty members can offer advice with deadlines, course selection,
and academics in general. There are also opportunities for internships and
independent study. As well as faculty members, there are many students in
PHO. Often, pre-health students study together and help provide a solid
support system as you go through
the process. You will find that
upperclassmen are also very willing to help.
North Central College's
Pre-Health program is based on two principles: that a broad education in biology,
chemistry and physics is a good foundation for health fields and that education
in the humanities is also necessary as "health professionals treat human beings."
PHO supports this statement through a number of different activities and programs.
Here are a few currently sponsored activities:
* volunteering at Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora
* practice tests for professional schools
* a "Parts Night" where a pathologist from Edward's Hospital brings in organs
* sponsoring a blood drive
* participation in area-wide seminars on application processes
* buddy program within the group
* various lectures and speakers
* We also want to expand our volunteering as well as study groups,
and possibly even a trip to the inner city.
