Why Study Chemistry?

Chemists are interested in the structure and transformations of matter. They create entirely new substances such as pharmaceuticals, conducting polymers, and synthetic fibers that are useful in a wide variety of applications. A degree in chemistry can prepare a student for employment in many different and diverse fields such as agricultural, pharmaceutical or material science research and production; chemical engineering; graduate study in the areas of chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacy, and medicinal or environmental chemistry; preparation for medical, dental, veterinary or law school; or secondary school teaching. A minor in chemistry can be coupled with a major in areas such as business, marketing or education to help give the student a competitive edge in the job market.

Degrees offered: B.A. and B.S.
