Steve Macek is associate professor of Speech Communication and coordinator of Urban and Suburban Studies. He teaches courses in media studies, urban studies, gender/women studies and new media. He is the author of Urban Nightmares: The Media, the Right and the Moral Panic over the City (University of Minnesota Press, 2006) and co-editor of Marxism and Communication Studies: The Point is to Change It (Peter Lang, 2006). He also writes frequently about media policy issues. He is currently writing a history of Chicago journalism in the 20th century tentatively titled News for a Divided Metropolis.
